Dinner with family and cousins from USA

Club Med for Cows!

Koropuku Falls - a hidden dream! |
FAMILY and FARM
- The Garden House now has a heat pump to add to
woodburner, gas and other electric heaters. Don't be cold!
- We have enjoyed an overnight visit from a US
family - three Swanson brothers and Nancy, wife of
Don. Nancy is my cousin's husband's sister! All our
offspring came to meet them which made for a fun
Saturday night as the storm raged outside.
- The cows are all settled for winter with about
ten silage pits open. They are amazingly content
given the wild weather. Long may that continue..
(the contentment, not the weather..)
- delighted to have a knock on the door yesterday
from a young traveller from Fortrose in Scotland,
with two friends -- what a great chat we had -- she
plans to become a Kiwi -- much as she loves
Scotland, New Zealand is even better!
LOCAL and DISTRICT
- We have lately discovered a waterfall new to us locals
would you believe? It's called Koropuku Falls and is on the
left of the main road through Catlins, 7.5Km from the
turnoff from the Tokanui-Waikawa Road. A red-painted rock,
on the right of the road, helped us to find it. It is a
lovely track with some boulder-scrambling near the fall...
could be slippery in the wet. Take care.
- The seas this weekend have been bigger than Colin has
seen in his lifetime. The Tokanui river has been inundated
with sand so water is flowing everywhere.
- So many farms have changed hands.... we need to
have a get-together to meet everyone. Fortrose had
its District Dinner last Friday and maybe the Otara
one is coming up shortly.
